Commercial read
What is constrained: Feed-in across most of the province: the transmission grid has off-take room while feed-in is at its most constrained level in most sampled areas. The largest feed-in waiting lists sit at Delfzijl (about 83 MW) and Veendam (about 63 MW).
Still worth screening: Off-take: the transmission off-take layer generally has headroom, so an industrial or datacentre load faces a very different picture than a solar or wind project. Eemshaven is the standout, an industrial and offshore-landing area with room in both directions and the largest TenneT build-out.
What changed: Enexis announced (31 October 2025) six new high-voltage stations in Groningen, including Eemshaven Oostpolder, Farmsum Oosterlaan and Meerstad, plus expansions at Vierverlaten, Weiwerd and Stadskanaal, part of its largest-ever reinforcement.
What to watch: The northern TenneT build-out (Eemshaven Oostpolderweg 380/110 kV 2034 to 2037, Farmsum Oosterlaan 2032 to 2035, Vierverlaten 380/110 kV 2034 to 2036) and whether the Delfzijl and Veendam feed-in queues move as regional expansions land.

Stations and areas
- Province overview, directional: Every Groningen service area Wattlas sampled on 5 July 2026 shows TenneT's off-take layer at a less constrained level (code 1) while the feed-in layer is at its most constrained level (code 3), except Eemshaven and Delfzijl where both layers have room. This is the reverse of the congested south: off-take generally has headroom, feed-in is the binding constraint. Expected: Feed-in relief runs through the large TenneT northern build-out (Eemshaven Oostpolderweg 2034 to 2037, Farmsum Oosterlaan 2032 to 2035, Vierverlaten 2034 to 2036), so these three span 2032 to 2037; related regional works in the same programme run to 2039. source
- Delfzijl (Weiwerd) service area, feed-in: The capacity map (sampled 5 July 2026) lists 509.1 MW existing against 399.7 MW required feed-in capacity with an 83.1 MW feed-in waiting queue, the largest in the sampled Groningen areas, on an industrial-scale grid (off-take existing 518 MW). TenneT code 0 both layers here, so the constraint is regional feed-in capacity rather than transmission. Expected: TenneT Farmsum Oosterlaan 220/110 kV (2032 to 2035) and Eemshaven Oostpolderweg 380/110 kV (2034 to 2037); Enexis expands Weiwerd. source
- Veendam service area, feed-in: The capacity map (sampled 5 July 2026) lists 154.7 MW existing against 107.8 MW required feed-in capacity with a 62.6 MW feed-in waiting queue, TenneT feed-in code 3, regional solve indicated 2029. Off-take has room (existing 155.4 against 61.5 required). Expected: Regional feed-in solve indicated 2029; TenneT Meeden-Winschoten 110 kV and Gasselte-Veendam works 2029 to 2037. source
- Eemshaven service area, both directions: The capacity map (sampled 5 July 2026) lists 149.8 MW existing against 70 MW required off-take (queue 0.1 MW) and 155.5 MW existing against 123 MW required feed-in (queue 0 MW), with TenneT off-take code 1 and feed-in code 0. Eemshaven has room in both directions, unusual for the north, and carries the largest TenneT build-out: a new Eemshaven Oostpolderweg 380/110 kV station. Expected: New TenneT 380/110 kV station Eemshaven Oostpolderweg (2034 to 2037) and Farmsum Oosterlaan (2032 to 2035). source
