Drenthe grid status

Drenthe follows the northern pattern: the transmission grid has off-take room (TenneT code 1) while feed-in is the binding constraint (code 3), driven by solar and wind. The largest feed-in waiting list sits at Emmen (about 71 MW). Relief runs through the TenneT northern reinforcement (Musselkanaal, Veenoord Boerdijk, the Drents Overijsselse Netversterking). Enexis is the main regional grid operator, with Rendo covering part of the Hoogeveen area.

What is constrained: Feed-in across the province: the transmission grid has off-take room while feed-in is at its most constrained level. The largest feed-in waiting list sits at Emmen (about 71 MW), with Norg around 46 MW.

Still worth screening: Off-take: the transmission off-take layer generally has headroom, so an industrial or datacentre load faces a different picture than a solar or wind project. Note that Hoogeveen has a real off-take queue (about 44 MW) on the regional grid despite the transmission off-take headroom.

What changed: Enexis announced (31 October 2025) eight new stations for the Drenthe area, including Musselkanaal, Veenoord Boerdijk and Meppel Noord, part of its largest-ever reinforcement. TenneT's Musselkanaal 380/110 kV station is in progress for 2026.

What to watch: The TenneT northern reinforcement (Musselkanaal 2026, Veenoord Boerdijk 380 kV 2031 to 2034, Deelnet Emmen 2031 to 2033), the Rendo new station at Hoogeveen, and whether the Emmen feed-in queue moves.

  • Province overview, directional: Every Drenthe service area Wattlas sampled on 5 July 2026 shows TenneT's off-take layer at a less constrained level (code 1) while the feed-in layer is at its most constrained level (code 3). As in Groningen, off-take generally has headroom while feed-in is the binding constraint. Expected: Feed-in relief runs through the TenneT northern reinforcement (Musselkanaal 2026, Veenoord Boerdijk 380 kV 2031 to 2034, Drents Overijsselse Netversterking 2033 to 2036). source
  • Emmen (Bargermeer) service area, feed-in: The capacity map (sampled 5 July 2026) lists 82.5 MW existing against 60.8 MW required feed-in capacity with a 71.1 MW feed-in waiting queue, the largest in the sampled Drenthe areas, TenneT feed-in code 3, regional solve indicated 2030. Off-take has room (existing 94.1 against 64.5 required). Enexis plans extra capacity on Bargermeer in 2030. Expected: Enexis extra capacity Bargermeer 2030; TenneT Deelnet Emmen 2031 to 2033 and Veenoord Boerdijk 2031 to 2034. source
  • Norg (Zeyerveld) service area, feed-in: The capacity map (sampled 5 July 2026) lists 207 MW existing against 125 MW required feed-in capacity with a 46.3 MW feed-in waiting queue, TenneT feed-in code 3, regional solve indicated 2026. Off-take has ample room (existing 208.4 against 72.3 required). Expected: Enexis extra capacity Zeyerveen (approved, between 2022 and 2026); TenneT Zeyerveen 220 kV transformers 2029 to 2030. source
  • Hoogeveen service area, both directions: The capacity map (sampled 5 July 2026) lists 103.8 MW existing against 86.7 MW required off-take (queue 44.5 MW, regional solve 2025) and 97.5 MW existing against 109.6 MW required feed-in (queue 9.1 MW, solve 2027). This service area sits on an Enexis and Rendo boundary, with a Rendo project for a new high-voltage station (afname 2028, opwek 2030). Expected: Rendo new high-voltage station (off-take 2028, feed-in 2030); Enexis extra capacity Hoogeveen (between 2022 and 2027). source

The directional flip (off-take room, feed-in constrained) is confirmed across the sampled areas. Enexis build-out figures come from Enexis' own press release of 31 October 2025. TenneT project dates are from the capacity map projects layer, all indicative operator timelines. Drenthe is a two-DSO province: Enexis for most of it, and Rendo covering part of the Hoogeveen area (confirmed via the capacity map rnb field and a Rendo project record).
